Gold prices slumped further as tension on the trade agreement and war conflict eased, with major factors such as below:

  • US-UK Trade Agreement: Although the Bank of England lowered the interest rate to 4.25%, Governor Andrew Bailey welcomed the trade deal and finally reached a breakthrough with President Donald Trump that could ease some of the risks to growth. This comes with a reason of reducing barriers on agricultural, chemical, energy, and industrial exports; lowering auto tariffs to 10%; and eliminating metals duties to 0%. However, Trump also stated that this “10% tariff for the UK will not serve as a template for negotiations with other countries,” which other nations will face much higher.
    • US-China Trade Agreement: Trump also mentioned that the upcoming trade negotiation will likely turn out to be positive, citing the possibility of reaching lower tariffs. As per the New York Post, “US weighs plan to slash China tariffs to as low as 50% from 145% as soon as next week.”
      • Potential of a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine: Ukraine’s mineral deal and the Russia-Ukraine invasion are likely to end any time soon. In fact, “the US calls for, ideally, a 30-day unconditional ceasefire. If the ceasefire is not respected, the US and its partners will impose further sanctions.”

        Looking Forward:

        • Trade agreement with China on Saturday and Sunday, and also with other nations.
        • The Federal Reserve’s speech tonight!
