U.S. Tightens Pressure on Iran as Military Operations Continue

The United States carried out a third consecutive night of military strikes against Iran on Monday, signaling that tensions in the region remain elevated. Adding to the developments, President Donald Trump told Fox News that the U.S. is taking control of the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important waterway through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passes.

Trump later announced on Truth Social that the U.S. is reinstating the “Iranian Blockade,” stating that it is intended to prevent Iranian vessels and ships serving Iranian customers from entering or leaving the region. He also said the U.S. would charge a 20% reimbursement fee on all cargo shipments to cover the costs of maintaining security in the area.
Despite the escalating conflict, gold fell 2.19% on Monday, suggesting investors were less focused on safe-haven demand and more inflationary pressure. Meanwhile, WTI crude oil surged 5.84% as concerns over potential disruptions to global oil supply supported energy prices.
What to Watch Today

Investors will be closely monitoring the U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) report at 7:30 PM (GMT+7), followed by Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s first day of testimony on the Semiannual Monetary Policy Report at 9:00 PM (GMT+7). The CPI report is expected to show headline inflation slowing to 3.8% YoY from 4.2% previously, while Core CPI is forecast to ease to 2.8% YoY from 2.9%, suggesting that inflationary pressures may continue to moderate.
For gold, higher-than-expected inflation could reduce expectations for future Federal Reserve rate cuts, potentially weighing on gold prices by strengthening the U.S. dollar and Treasury yields. Conversely, softer-than-expected inflation may reinforce expectations for policy easing and provide support for gold. Markets will also pay close attention to any new comments from Kevin Warsh regarding inflation, economic growth, or the Fed’s policy outlook, as any unexpected remarks could trigger increased volatility across financial markets.
